Environmental Restoration: Centering Conservation, Cultural Memory, & Sustainable Futures

Join us for a day of exploring environmental restoration through conservation, cultural memory, and solutions-based futures.

Registration + Breakfast (8:00 AM – 8:45 AM)

The day is set to begin with morning registration for mini-conference ticketholders, as well as coffee, tea, fruit & pastries.

Morning Session I: Parental Intent & Childhood Engagement in the Outdoors (9:00 AM – 10:30 AM)

Helen E. Casale (Attorney, Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller) will be joined by our friend Okoa Kinsey (Owner, WPK Digital Solutions) for a conversation centering the legal definition of ‘parent’ in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and how family law has the potential to set the stage for early childhood engagements in the outdoors.

Morning Session II: Local Historic Green Spaces as a Gateway to Public Lands (10:45 AM – 12:15 PM)

Dr. Joan Countryman (Board Member, Historic Germantown) will be joined by Katie Hess (Director of Pennsylvania Landscape Conservation, Appalachian Trail Conservancy) for a conversation centering on diverse access to local (neighborhood level) ‘gateways’ to state and federal public lands.

Lunchtime (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)

Afternoon Session: Property Value & Public Green Spaces (1:45 PM – 3:15 PM)

Carlo Batts (Owner, of Rittenhouse Appraisals) will be joined by Anne McNiff (Executive Director, of Chestnut Hill Community Association) to discuss the interdependent relationship between property value and public green spaces. We will learn more about Philadelphia’s Garden District and why cleaning and greening in our community matters.

Audience Reflection (3:30 PM – 4:30 PM)

This will be an opportunity for our guests to connect as well as to local subject matter experts around the topics that were discussed and more. The goal of this mini-conference is to connect people to people around matters that are impacting our communities, and broader society, today. As we reflect, the hope is that we will be better able to walk towards solutions together.

Evening Social (5:00 PM)

We welcome all attendees to join us for a post-event kickback at a local venue in the Germantown Area.
